Samsung Securities Untact Conference and Youth Survey Results
Parents Prefer Tesla, Youth Prefer Apple for Overseas Stocks
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Teenagers prefer stocks (58%) over deposit-type assets (41%) as a way to invest their New Year's money. This is the result of a survey conducted by Samsung Securities on 9,629 customers who participated in the untact conference held on the 12th, and an online survey of 300 teenagers aged 17 to 19.
As for the stocks they want to invest in with New Year's money, parents chose Tesla, while teenagers chose Apple. Respondents to the survey who participated in the untact conference selected Tesla (40%), Apple (27%), Nvidia (7%), and Alphabet (5%) as the overseas stocks they want to gift their children with New Year's money. In contrast, the overseas stocks that teenagers want to invest in with New Year's money were Apple (35%), Alphabet (23%), Tesla (20%), and Amazon (7%) in that order. Teenagers seem to prefer Apple and Alphabet because they are more familiar with and frequently use smartphones and YouTube.
When asked whether they have a stock account in their own name, 43% of teenagers answered that they do. Among them, half said their parents operate the account in the child's name, and the other half said they manage it themselves.
