Prosecution Seeks 13-Year Prison Sentence Again for Biological Mother of 3-Year-Old Girl in Gumi in Retrial
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has requested a 13-year prison sentence again in the retrial for Seoek Mo (50), identified as the biological mother of a 3-year-old girl found dead in a villa in Gumi, Gyeongbuk.
On the 10th, at the sentencing hearing of Seoek's retrial held at the Daegu District Court Criminal Appeals Division 1 (Chief Judge Lee Sang-gyun), the prosecution asked the court to impose the same 13-year prison sentence as in the first and second trials.
Seoek was prosecuted on charges of abducting a minor by secretly swapping the baby girl born to her biological daughter Kim Mo (24) at an obstetrics clinic in Gumi between March and April 2018 with a baby girl she claimed to have given birth to, and taking the child somewhere. She is also accused of attempting to conceal a corpse by placing the 3-year-old girl’s body, found dead in the villa where Kim lived on February 9, 2021, into a box to bury it before reporting to the police.

Although she denied the charges during the trial, the first and second trial courts found her guilty and sentenced her to 8 years in prison. However, the Supreme Court overturned the original verdict, stating that the baby swapping crime was not proven and that further investigation was necessary, and sent the case back to the Daegu District Court.
