On the 9th, the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency announced that on the 28th of last month at Jeju National University Hospital, Song Seyoon (6) donated his heart, lungs, and kidneys (left and right) through brain death organ donation, saving four lives and ending a short but beautiful life.
Song had surgery for typhoid fever right after birth but grew up healthy like any other child afterward. However, on the 1st of last month, he suddenly collapsed after complaining of vomiting and abdominal pain, followed by cardiac arrest. Song received cardiopulmonary resuscitation and was transported to the hospital, but upon arrival, he was already in an irreversible brain death state. Song’s family, unable to let go of their suddenly fallen child, decided to donate his organs with the hope that he would live and breathe somewhere in the world.
Born in Jeju Island, Song was a bright and active child who always cared for younger children and was considerate. He loved pork cutlet and jajangmyeon, and especially loved cars, dreaming of becoming a mechanic who fixes sick cars.
Song’s mother, Song Seunga, said, "There must be other mothers in the world who suffer because their children are sick like me, but I decided to donate because I believe that part of Seyoon’s body will live and breathe somewhere, and the children and families who receive the donation can be happy." She added a message to her departed son: "Seyoon, don’t worry about me anymore and live in heaven doing everything you want like other children. I’m sorry if I nagged you every day not to eat candy and chocolate. I love you. I will always think of you."

Moon Inseong, director of the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency, said, "It is difficult to understand or express the sorrow of losing a young child, but we thank Song’s parents for making this decision for children suffering from other pains. We will do our best to ensure that the noble spirit of the donor and the donor’s family who practiced life-sharing is well conveyed."
