SKT Market Share Falls Below 40%... Rapid Growth of Altteul Phone
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] SK Telecom's market share in the wireless communication service sector has fallen below the 40% mark for the first time. This is attributed to the continuous growth of budget phone services.
According to the wireless communication service subscription status recently released by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 9th, as of November last year, the market shares of the three major telecom companies?SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus?were 39.94%, 22.86%, and 20.76%, respectively.
In particular, SK Telecom's number of subscribers dropped below 40% for the first time since the survey began. This is analyzed to be influenced by the rising market share of budget phones. As of November last year, budget phones recorded a market share of 16.44%, with 12.64 million subscribers.
Over the past year, budget phone subscribers increased by more than 2 million, exceeding the combined subscriber growth of the three major telecom companies. SK Telecom increased by about 800,000, KT by around 100,000, and LG Uplus by approximately 700,000 during the same period.
