Oh Se-hoon: "We Will Create an Organizational Culture That Hesitates Without New Attempts"
New Year's Assembly with Over 450 Employees
Also Conducted a Special Lecture for About 20 Minutes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, on the occasion of the 2023 Year of the Rabbit (Gyemyo Year), emphasized creating an organizational culture that does not hesitate to try new initiatives in order to build ‘Togetherness and the Special City of Charm, Seoul,’ the top priority value of Seoul city administration, during a meeting with Seoul city employees.
On the 4th, Mayor Oh held the '2023 New Year Employee Assembly' at Seoul City Hall with about 450 employees from the main office, business sites, and investment and affiliated institutions, delivering a special lecture under the theme ‘Creating a Wise Togetherness and Special City of Charm, Seoul.’ He introduced his vision for making Seoul a happier workplace and providing great happiness to citizens through a presentation lasting about 20 minutes.
Mayor Oh stated, “2023 is a period of national fortune rising,” and emphasized that to maintain and grow the peak rather than decline after reaching the summit, continuous exploration and reflection are necessary.
In particular, to make the top priority value of Seoul city administration, ‘Togetherness and the Special City of Charm,’ enjoyable and efficient, he said, “We must not hesitate to take risks and try new things,” encouraging Seoul city employees to become ‘first movers.’
Mayor Oh said, “We must read trends quickly and boldly take actions that other cities and countries do not. To do that, we must endure the possibility of failure and take bold actions. Let’s make 2023 a year of bold initiatives.”
He also added, “To create an organizational culture that does not hesitate to try new initiatives, we need to change the existing system. When smooth communication and collaboration between departments occur, masterpieces can be created.”
In this regard, as one of the innovative policy ideas for creative administration, Ji-hyun Lee, Seoul City’s Chief Vision Strategy Officer, announced the ‘Subway Station Innovation Project.’ This project proposes a complete paradigm shift regarding subway stations, which are usually perceived as mere transit spaces, aiming to make the Seoul subway, used by 5.9 million people daily, the most convenient and attractive place in the world.
For example, ‘Yeouinaru Station,’ which is close to Hangang Park and has the highest foot traffic among stations nearby, was proposed to be developed as a convenience facility space for runners. ‘Sindang Station,’ recently emerging as a hotspot for the MZ generation with cafes, exhibitions, and fashion, was suggested to be transformed into a space enjoying street culture centered on b-boying and skateboarding, which have been adopted as official Olympic sports.
