[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has been confirmed at layer farms located in Gimpo City and Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 3rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that detailed tests on avian influenza (AI) cases that occurred the previous day at layer farms in Haseong-myeon, Gimpo City, and Gunnam-myeon, Yeoncheon County, confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic AI (H5N1 type).
The province decided to cull 80,000 and 93,000 chickens raised at the two farms as a preventive measure. Additionally, about 48,000 chickens at one layer farm within a 500-meter radius of the Yeoncheon farm will also be culled preventively. Furthermore, a 24-hour temporary movement ban order was issued until 11 p.m. on the same day for layer farms in northern Gyeonggi, Gimpo City, and Ganghwa County, Incheon.
With this farm confirmation, a total of 59 cases of highly pathogenic AI have been confirmed in poultry farms since October last year. Starting from Yongin on November 15 last year, AI outbreaks occurred at seven farms in five cities in southern Gyeonggi, including Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Icheon, and Anseong, resulting in the culling of 730,000 poultry such as chickens and ducks.
