The Criminal Division 5 of the Busan District Court (Chief Judge Park Mu-young) announced on the 2nd that A, who was indicted for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud), was sentenced to five years in prison.
A is accused of receiving about 1.083 billion won from 17 people from March 2020 to July 2021 under the pretext of purchasing cheap accommodation vouchers or investment funds related to luxury hotels, and embezzling a total of 2.38 billion won from dozens of people using similar methods.
According to the Busan District Court, A falsely claimed that since her relative was a hotel executive, she would provide 20 accommodation coupons for 800,000 won. It was revealed that A used the money received from multiple victims for living expenses and recruited new investors to cover previous payments in a Ponzi scheme.
