Jinju-si Wins 31 Awards This Year Including Presidential Award... Remarkable Achievements

Bu-gang Jinju Season 2 Sets Sail
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam achieved remarkable results across the entire administration this year, marking the end of the 7th local government term and the beginning of the 8th. The city won a total of 31 awards in evaluations conducted by external organizations such as the central government and Gyeongnam Province, and secured a total of 55.1 billion KRW in national and provincial funds through 50 public contest projects.
This year, the city received excellent evaluations across the entire administration in external assessments, continuing a series of awards that successfully concluded the 7th local government term and opened a hopeful 8th term.
In evaluations by central government ministries, Jinju was selected as an excellent institution in 13 categories, including the 2022 Korea City Awards (President’s Award), Excellence in Local Love Gift Certificate Case Evaluation (Minister’s Award), Excellence in Outdoor Advertising Promotion in 2022 (Minister’s Award), Excellence in Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization in 2022 (Minister’s Award), and winning three awards at the 5th Our Neighborhood Character Awards. The city received a special grant of 100 million KRW and prize money of 21 million KRW.
Notably, in the Korea City Awards evaluating urban competitiveness among 229 local governments nationwide, Jinju achieved 3rd place overall among small and medium-sized cities in 2020 (Minister’s Award), 1st place overall among small and medium-sized cities in 2021 (Prime Minister’s Award), and 1st place overall among large and small cities in 2022 (President’s Award), demonstrating steady administrative development over the three years of the 7th local government term.
In evaluations by Gyeongnam Province, Jinju was selected as an excellent institution in eight project areas, including the top overall ranking in the joint evaluation of major tasks among cities and counties, excellence in cardiovascular disease prevention and management projects, excellence in major transportation policy evaluations, and excellence in rural promotion and guidance projects. The city received a special grant of 315 million KRW and prize money of 5 million KRW.
Among these, Jinju achieved 1st place overall in the joint evaluation of major tasks among 18 cities and counties in Gyeongnam, gaining external recognition for the excellence of Jinju’s administration.
Additionally, Jinju received about 10 awards from various organizations across the administration, including selection as a 2022 World Festival City, the Grand Prize at the 20th Korea Architecture Exhibition (Mulbit Naru Rest Area), the Excellence Award (Myeongseok-myeon Resident Complex Cultural Center), and recognition as an excellent local government in urban regeneration and old downtown revitalization.
In particular, by participating in the World Festival Association, Jinju was selected as a 2022 World Festival City, elevating its status from a festival city recognized domestically to one acknowledged by the official global festival organization as one of the world’s best festival cities.
In 2022, Jinju was finally selected for a total of 50 public contest projects, securing 55.1 billion KRW in national and provincial funds, enabling the city to open a prosperous future for the next 100 years.
Major public contest projects include ▲ Sangdae District Urban Regeneration Project (11.9 billion KRW) ▲ Industrial Complex Environmental Improvement Project (7.9 billion KRW) ▲ Rural Space Maintenance Project (15.5 billion KRW) ▲ Low-Carbon Green Project District Creation Project (4.8 billion KRW) ▲ Local Government ITS National Subsidy Project (3.2 billion KRW) ▲ Livestock Odor Improvement Project (800 million KRW) ▲ Basic Living Base Creation Project (3.1 billion KRW), among others.
Notably, Hadae-dong was selected for the urban regeneration preliminary project, and following Seongbuk, Gangnam, and Jungang districts, the Sangdae District was selected for the urban regeneration public contest project this year, achieving the remarkable feat of being selected for four consecutive years. This enables Jinju to systematically promote balanced regional development.
Also, the long-standing concern of Jinju, the aging Sangpyeong Industrial Complex, can be transformed into an eco-friendly industrial complex linked with urban regeneration projects through selection for the Low-Carbon Green Industrial Complex Creation Project.

A city official stated, “The remarkable achievements this year were possible despite various difficulties because Mayor Cho Gyu-il and all staff united with one heart and made joint efforts based on the citizens’ trust in the overall administration.” He added, “In 2023, we will open Season 2 of the New 100 Years of Prosperous Jinju through solving local issues by selecting public contest projects, securing national and provincial funds, and actively promoting administration.”
