Goseong-gun Informs Residents of Environmental Policy and System Changes for Next Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will launch new environmental policies starting in 2023 to align with the socially emerging trends of carbon neutrality and environmental protection.
First, the implementation of the ‘Climate Change Impact Assessment’ to adapt to the climate crisis and induce greenhouse gas reduction. The Climate Change Impact Assessment is a system under Article 23 of the Framework Act on Carbon Neutrality that requires prior evaluation of climate change impacts on major national plans or large-scale development projects, aiming to promote adaptation to the climate crisis and reduction of greenhouse gases.
The assessment targets include urban development, industrial complex construction, energy development, port construction, road construction, river utilization and development, and installation of waste, sewage, and livestock manure treatment facilities that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases or are vulnerable to the climate crisis, among those subject to strategic and environmental impact assessments.
To improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gases, the ‘Early Retirement Support for Grade 4 Emission Diesel Vehicles’ will expand support for the ‘Old Diesel Vehicle Emission Reduction Project’ to include vehicles with grade 4 emissions, extending from the previous target of grade 5 emission vehicles, to strengthen the reduction of fine dust pollutants in the transportation sector.
The support targets are vehicles without diesel particulate filters installed, which have valid compulsory insurance and are deemed capable of normal operation.
For systematic separation and disposal of household waste, ‘Sale of Non-combustible Waste Volume-based Bags’ will be introduced to establish separation by waste type and preserve a clean environment. To reduce inconvenience for residents and improve separation efficiency, dedicated volume-based bags for non-combustible waste will be produced and sold starting January 1 next year.
The non-combustible waste volume-based bags will be priced at 300 KRW per 10-liter bag and 600 KRW per 20-liter bag. They can be purchased at designated waste volume-based bag sales locations and must be disposed of at the designated collection points on the scheduled collection days.
Regarding African Swine Fever (ASF) prevention, the restriction on the number of wild boars captured will be lifted. From 2023, Goseong-gun will remove the previous daily limit of two wild boars captured to prevent ASF and minimize crop damage to farms.
