Gangbuk-gu to Hold Resident Briefing on January 4th for Suyu 12 District Urban Public Housing Complex Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is implementing an organizational restructuring focused on "rapid residential environment improvement, happy family welfare, and animal welfare" starting January 1st of the new year, in line with the launch of the 8th term of the elected administration.
This restructuring plan reflects the intention to promote rapid redevelopment projects tailored to local conditions, enhance family welfare by improving the quality of childcare and parenting services according to life cycles, and create a Jungnang-gu where people and animals coexist.
First, the Housing Development Division will be expanded and reorganized into the Housing Development Promotion Team, with the establishment of new Housing Policy and Moa Housing teams. Aiming for residential stability and quality housing supply, customized information will be provided to residents in each project area, accelerating the promotion of 17 projects selected through housing development business contests.
Additionally, to realize happy family welfare for families and children, a new Child and Youth Division will be established, responsible for building a public-centered child protection system, creating a child-friendly city, and establishing and operating new youth facilities, thereby strengthening welfare for children and families.
Furthermore, to create a happy city where people and animals coexist and to strengthen animal welfare and protection functions, an Animal Policy Team will be newly established. Plans include discovering and operating pet shelters and pet education programs.
Moreover, to support the creation of an urban agriculture complex space scheduled to open in April 2023, an Urban Agriculture Center Team has been formed within the Urban Agriculture Division.
Alongside this, the district will also reorganize the names and roles of existing organizations. To revitalize the local economy, the Job Creation Division has been renamed the Local Economy Division, and a Local Commercial Area Activation Team has been established to create specialized alleyway commercial streets and revitalize commercial districts.
Also, to strengthen welfare in childbirth and preschool areas, the Women’s Policy Division has been renamed the Childcare Support Division, with the establishment of a Gender Equality Policy Team dedicated to gender equality issues and a Multicultural Team to address the increasing foreign and multicultural population, thereby improving the quality of childcare and parenting services.
The Sports and Youth Division has been renamed the Sports Promotion Division, with a new Sports Activities Team established to expand and support community sports programs and promote the construction of sports centers. The Urban Regeneration Division has been renamed the Housing Improvement Division, reorganizing the existing four teams into three, responsible for housing regeneration and residential environment maintenance. This includes promoting urban regeneration projects and small-scale alleyway residential environment improvement projects.
Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu stated, “Through the expanded Housing Development Promotion Team, we will promote customized projects to drastically improve aging low-rise residential areas and enhance the quality of the residential environment.” He added, “With this organizational restructuring, we will respond swiftly to changing administrative demands and spare no effort to successfully implement the vision and key projects of the 8th term administration.”
Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will hold a "Suyu 12 District Urban Public Housing Complex Project Resident Briefing Session" at 4 p.m. on January 4, 2023, in the district office auditorium.
The district prepared this briefing session to present the project plan and estimated contribution fees following the advisory results of the 3rd Preliminary Review Committee (October 7, 2022) and to reaffirm residents' willingness to proceed with the project.
The attendees are landowners and others with property rights in the Suyu 12 District (around 711-1 Suyu-dong), which was announced as the 2nd candidate site in April 2021.
The briefing session will be conducted by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), the agency promoting the project, and will include explanations of the current status of Suyu 12 District, the project plan (draft), estimated average contribution fees, and a Q&A session.
Due to limited space, only 200 pre-registered attendees will be allowed entry.
Residents wishing to attend should send their name, contact information, and land location lot number via email to the LH Metropolitan Area Urban Renewal Headquarters.
Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until 6 p.m. on the 30th. For detailed inquiries regarding applications, please contact the Korea Land and Housing Corporation.
The district plans to broadcast the briefing session live on the Gangbuk-gu YouTube channel.
The Urban Public Housing Complex Project is led by public institutions such as the Korea Land and Housing Corporation to develop underutilized and aging areas within the city, such as low-rise residential zones and areas near subway stations, offering incentives like relaxed floor area ratios and shortened project durations.
