Jeonnam Police Achieves Nationwide 1st Place in 2022 Perceived Safety Index
Focus on Safe Security with CCTV Installation and Traffic Facility Improvements
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam police's customized security activities, which were a key focus this year, have significantly contributed to improving the perceived safety level.
Jeonnam police announced on the 20th that they ranked first among 18 city and provincial police agencies nationwide with a comprehensive score of 82.2 points in the '2022 National Perceived Safety Survey' conducted by the National Police Agency.
The perceived safety survey was conducted via telephone from March to October this year, targeting 51,600 people nationwide (200 people from each of the 258 police stations nationwide, 4,200 people from 21 police stations in Jeonnam).
The survey items included overall safety, safety by sector, crime safety, traffic accident safety, and law and order compliance. The safety level perceived by residents of the respective areas was scored on a 10-point scale to calculate a comprehensive score.
As a result of this survey, Jeonnam Police Agency ranked first nationwide in all survey categories (overall safety, safety by sector, crime safety, traffic accident safety, law and order compliance), with law and order compliance showing a significant improvement of 7.9 points compared to the previous year.
Jeonnam police have consistently maintained excellent results in perceived safety evaluations over the past seven years, reclaimed the nationwide first place after three years in this survey, and achieved the highest comprehensive score ever recorded since the perceived safety survey began in 2011.
In the police activity level survey conducted alongside the perceived safety survey, Jeonnam police received the highest scores nationwide in all four areas: patrol activities in high-crime areas (76.0 points), traffic safety activities (76.7 points), law violation crackdown activities (77.8 points), and community policing prevention activities (75.9 points). This indicates that Jeonnam residents feel that Jeonnam police's security activities are actively carried out.
In particular, initiatives reflecting regional characteristics such as 'expansion of village crime prevention CCTV,' 'traffic facility calming for the protection of vulnerable road users,' and 'safety activities for high-risk elderly living alone who are crime victims' were analyzed to have shown great effectiveness.
