Changnyeong Saemaeul Chairman Son Seongho Receives Presidential Saemaeul Award
Recognition for Contributions to Improving Residents' Quality of Life and Promoting International Cooperation Projects

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Son Seong-ho, chairman of the Saemaeul Association in Changnyeong-gun, who has put everything aside to visit disaster sites and volunteer whenever neighbors face difficulties or various disasters occur in the district, was awarded the Presidential Saemaeul Medal at the ‘2022 Saemaeul Leaders Conference’ held on the 19th.
Chairman Son began as a director of the county association 10 years ago in 2012 and has carried out activities promoted by the Saemaeul Movement such as the ‘Life, Peace, and Community Movement,’ local community revitalization projects, and the Global Sharing Movement. In 2018, he was unanimously appointed as the 19th chairman at the association chairpersons’ election meeting and has elevated the status of the Saemaeul Movement through firm leadership and systematic organizational management even during the COVID-19 situation.
Chairman Son’s achievements include ▲full support for wedding expenses of 10 multicultural families ▲hosting senior citizens’ banquets for over 1,000 people for three years on Parents’ Day ▲providing winter supplies to 1,200 seniors aged 80 and above ▲paving village roads in Myanmar and Cambodia through the Global Sharing Movement ▲organizing the Upo Wetland Life Trail Walking Contest for two years with about 9,000 participants to raise awareness of the value of Upo Wetland ▲planting 3,600 azaleas and rhododendrons to practice carbon neutrality in the life movement ▲donating 4,100 new books to promote reading habits ▲donating 6 million won for COVID-19 crisis relief and 1.8 million won to encourage frontline workers ▲supporting 150 wireless remote-controlled LED lamps for the convenience of elderly living alone, among countless other contributions.

Chairman Son said, “Receiving the Presidential Medal was possible thanks to the encouragement, support, and cooperation of our members,” adding, “I will take this as a whip to serve with a humble attitude and close-knit volunteer spirit, and I will spare no passion in sharing love globally by visiting not only the people of Changnyeong-gun but also difficult regions overseas.”
