[2023 Regular Admission] Sookmyung Women's University to Select 1,084 Students in Regular Admission... General Admission Expanded to 836 Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Sookmyung Women's University will select a total of 1,084 students in the 2023 academic year regular admission. Notably, the number of general student admissions in the regular admission Group A has significantly increased from 670 last year to 836 this year.
Sookmyung Women's University will accept applications for regular admission Groups A and B from December 30 to January 2. Some departments in the humanities, natural sciences, and arts and physical education fields (Dance Department and College of Fine Arts) will recruit freshmen in Group A, while the College of Pharmacy, Department of Physical Education, and College of Music will recruit in Group B.
The biggest change in this year’s regular admission is the establishment of advanced departments. The IT Engineering major in the existing ICT Convergence Engineering Department has been changed to the Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering, and the Electronic Engineering major and Applied Physics major have been changed to the Intelligent Electronic Systems major and New Materials Physics major in the Department of Advanced Materials and Electronic Convergence Engineering. Additionally, the Computer Science major and Software Convergence major in the Department of Software have been changed to the Computer Science major and Data Science major, respectively.
The number of general student admissions in Group A for regular admission has expanded from 670 last year to 836 this year. In Group A, humanities and natural sciences students are selected based on 100% CSAT scores. In the College of Fine Arts, Visual and Video Design, Industrial Design, and Environmental Design majors select students with 60% CSAT scores and 40% practical skills, the Craft major with 40% CSAT and 60% practical skills, and the Painting major with 30% CSAT and 70% practical skills. The Dance major selects students with 30% CSAT and 70% practical skills.
In Group B of the regular admission, the College of Pharmacy selects students based on 100% CSAT scores, while the Department of Physical Education and College of Music select freshmen using both CSAT scores and practical exam results. The number of general student admissions in Group B is 158. If there are unregistered students from the early admission, those spots will be transferred to the regular admission general student selection, so the final number of admissions should be confirmed on the admissions office website before the application deadline.
CSAT scores apply standardized scores by subject area, and the English section uses Sookmyung Women's University’s converted scores based on grade levels (the inquiry section reflects converted standardized scores). Applicants must take the required number of CSAT subjects designated by each department: the Department of Physical Education and the College of Fine Arts (excluding Painting) require three subjects, and the College of Music, Dance Department, and Painting Department require two subjects.
Humanities (excluding the College of Business Administration) applicants must take Korean (no designated elective), Mathematics (no designated elective), English, and social or science inquiry (converted standardized scores) to be eligible. The College of Business Administration has different weighting for Korean and Mathematics compared to other humanities departments. However, there are no additional points for CSAT subject weighting, and the number of admissions is not divided, so applicants should be cautious when applying.
Natural sciences applicants are evaluated based on four subjects: Korean (no designated elective), Mathematics (Geometry or Calculus), English, and Science Inquiry (converted standardized scores). However, the Department of Mathematics has different weighting compared to general natural sciences, and the Departments of Statistics and Clothing have no designated elective for Mathematics and different weighting, so applicants should refer to this when applying. The Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering also has no designated elective for Mathematics and different weighting compared to other natural science majors. On the other hand, applicants to the New Materials Physics major receive a 5% additional score if they choose Physics in the Science Inquiry section.

Additionally, 24 students in Group A and 6 students in Group B will be selected through the Equal Opportunity Selection (outside the quota). This selection is based on 100% CSAT scores and has no minimum CSAT score requirement. Furthermore, students from farming and fishing villages, graduates of specialized high schools, employed graduates of specialized high schools, and special education candidates will be selected if there are unfilled spots from early admission.
