[2023 Regular Admission] Sejong University Splits Recruitment into Groups A and B... Wider Choices for Examinees
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Sejong University will select 1,202 freshmen through the 2023 academic year regular admission. In particular, this regular admission has expanded the choices for applicants by changing the division of humanities and natural sciences into Group A and Group B.
Sejong University will accept applications for regular admission from December 30 to January 2. A total of 1,202 students will be selected through the general student admission (Group A and Group B), military contract admission for Defense Systems Engineering/Aerospace Systems Engineering (Group A), rural students admission (Group A and Group B), specialized high school graduates admission (Group A and Group B), and specialized high school graduates currently employed admission (Group B).
With the division of humanities and natural sciences into Group A and Group B, 382 students will be recruited in Group A and 820 in Group B. Based on the general student admission, the humanities field will select 4 departments in Group A and 6 departments in Group B, while the natural sciences field will select 11 departments including military contract admission in Group A and 15 departments in Group B.
The general student admission for humanities and natural sciences reflects 100% of the CSAT scores, while the arts and physical education fields consider practical exam scores and school records (curriculum) in addition to CSAT scores depending on the department. Since the admission methods, practical exam contents, and weighting of evaluation elements vary by department, it is essential to check the admission guidelines. The arts and physical education fields select all departments in Group B except for the Film Arts Department's Directing and Production major and the Dance Department (both in Group A). However, the Dance Department will only conduct regular admission if there are unfilled spots from early admission.
CSAT scores reflect standard scores for Korean and Mathematics sections, converted standard scores for the Inquiry section, and grades for the English section. For the humanities field, the weights are Korean 30%, Mathematics (Calculus, Geometry, Probability and Statistics) 30%, English 20%, and Inquiry (2 subjects in Social Studies or Science) 20%. For the natural sciences field (excluding the Creative Software Department), the weights are Korean 20%, Mathematics (Calculus, Geometry) 35%, English 20%, and Inquiry (2 Science subjects) 25%. For the Creative Software Department, the weights are Korean 35%, Mathematics (Calculus, Geometry, Probability and Statistics) 35%, English 20%, and Inquiry (2 subjects in Social Studies or Science) 10%. Among these, the Creative Software Department grants an additional 5% of the total Mathematics score to applicants who took Mathematics (Calculus, Geometry).
For humanities and natural sciences departments excluding military contract departments, additional points are awarded based on the Korean History section grade: full points for grade 3 or higher, and a deduction of 0.2 points per grade from grade 4 onwards. For the arts and physical education fields, the Physical Education Department reflects Korean 50% and English 50%, while other arts and physical education departments reflect Korean 70% and English 30%.
For the military contract departments, Defense Systems Engineering and Aerospace Systems Engineering, a certain number of candidates are selected in the first stage based on 100% CSAT scores, followed by Navy-supervised and Air Force admissions in the second stage. Therefore, detailed admission methods should be checked in the admission guidelines.
Additionally, these are the only regular admissions applying minimum CSAT score requirements. For Defense Systems Engineering, the sum of grades in three of the four areas?Korean, Mathematics, English, and Inquiry (one subject in Social Studies or Science)?must be 10 or less. For Aerospace Systems Engineering, the sum of grades in Korean, Mathematics, and English must be 9 or less, and the Korean History grade must be within grade 3. CSAT scores are weighted as Korean 20%, Mathematics 35%, English 20%, and two Inquiry subjects 25%, with an additional 10% of the total Mathematics score added for applicants who took Mathematics (Calculus or Geometry).

The special admissions for rural students and specialized high school graduates, recruited in both Group A and Group B, reflect 100% CSAT scores. Applicants who took the vocational Inquiry section of the CSAT can also apply for the specialized high school graduates special admission. The specialized high school graduates currently employed special admission is a comprehensive student record admission designed for those who graduated from specialized high schools and are currently employed. It selects 10 students each for the Hotel, Food Service, and Tourism Franchise Management Department and the Global Culinary Arts Department in Group B.
