[2023 Regular Admission] Kyung Hee University to Select 44.5% of Total Enrollment through Regular Admission
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Taewon] Kyung Hee University will select a total of 2,409 students in the 2023 regular admission. This accounts for 44.5% of the total recruitment number, which is an increase of 169 compared to last year.
Kyung Hee University will accept regular admission applications from December 30 to January 2. By admission type, 2,176 students will be selected through the CSAT-based admission, and 233 students through the practical skills-based admission.
The CSAT-based admission selecting 2,176 students has some changes compared to the previous year. First, the recruitment groups have been changed. Until now, the Seoul Campus recruited under Group A, and the International Campus under Group B. From this year, regardless of campus, the College of Foreign Languages, College of Electronics and Information, and College of Software Convergence will move from Group B to Group A, while the College of Pharmacy and College of Music will move from Group A to Group B for recruitment.
The Department of Dance, which was only selected through early admission, will now select students in the regular admission without practical skills, based solely on CSAT and school records if there are unregistered students. The specialized high school graduate admission, previously selected only in early admission, will be selected 100% based on CSAT in the regular admission.
The recruitment units are divided into Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Arts & Physical Education categories. Humanities and Social Sciences consider Korean, Mathematics, two subjects from Social/Science Inquiry, English, and Korean History. Natural Sciences consider Korean, Mathematics (Calculus or Geometry), two subjects from Science Inquiry, English, and Korean History.
Arts & Physical Education consider Korean, English, and one subject from Social/Science Inquiry. Applicants must take the CSAT subjects corresponding to their category, and if they fail to take even one of the required CSAT subjects, they cannot apply. There are no additional points or designated subjects for the inquiry area depending on the subject.
For each CSAT subject area, Korean and Mathematics use standard scores, while English and Korean History use the university’s grade-based converted scores. The inquiry area uses Kyung Hee University’s grade-based converted scores. For English, the perfect score for grade 1 is 200 points, and the score difference between grade 1 and grade 2 was reduced from 8 points (192) to 4 points (196), lowering the effective reflection rate of English. Korean History awards full marks for grades 1 to 4, with a 5-point deduction starting from grade 5. The grade-based converted scores for the inquiry area can be checked on the admissions office website after individual CSAT results are announced.
Since the reflection ratios of CSAT subject areas differ by category (Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Arts & Physical Education), even if the simple total of standard scores is the same, the CSAT converted score may vary depending on the scores in the areas with higher reflection ratios. Therefore, attention should be paid to the reflection ratios by category. ▲Humanities: Korean 35%, Math 25%, English 15%, Inquiry 25% ▲Social Sciences: Korean 25%, Math 35%, English 15%, Inquiry 25% ▲Natural Sciences: Korean 20%, Math 35%, English 15%, Science Inquiry 30% ▲Arts & Physical Education: Korean 50%, English 20%, Inquiry 30%.
Meanwhile, Kyung Hee University provides the competition rates, fill rates, and the average percentile scores by CSAT subject for the top 80% of final registrants from 2020 to 2022 on the admissions office website. Prospective applicants considering Kyung Hee University should carefully review these statistics to decide whether to apply.
