Namhae-gun Fishing Village Experience, Ieo and Munhang Villages Receive Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Commendation
Eoimaeul and Munhangmaeul villages in Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam, received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award at the 15th Fishing Village Advancement Competition.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Ieo Village and Munhang Village, fishing experience villages in Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam, recently received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Commendation at the ‘15th Fishing Village Advancement Competition’ held at Sono Calm Geoje.
Hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and organized by the Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Corporation, the ‘Fishing Village Advancement Competition’ is a nationwide event held annually to share achievements and information on fishing village policies.
This year, Namhae Ieo Village, which received first-class ratings in all three categories of experience, accommodation, and food in the fishing tourism project evaluation, was selected for the ‘First-Class Fishing Village Award’ and received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Commendation along with a prize of 30 million won.
At the awards ceremony held on the 15th, villages with the highest scores in each category (experience, accommodation, food) were selected as ‘Excellent Villages.’ Munhang Village was selected as an excellent village in the experience category and received the Minister’s Commendation and a prize of 10 million won.
Among the four excellent fishing villages selected nationwide, two villages from Namhae were chosen, proving Namhae-gun as a leading figure in fishing experience tourism.

Jang Chung-nam, the county governor, said, “Thanks to the residents’ dedicated efforts on the ground, we have been able to further enhance the status of Namhae-gun,” and added, “Let us maintain the beauty and purity of Namhae’s fishing villages through closer communication between the public and private sectors.”
