Namwon-si Initiates Emergency Duty to Prevent Winter Water Facility Freezing
[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 16th that it has issued guidelines to prevent water supply facility freezing during winter and has entered a permanent emergency duty system for thorough response.
The city, anticipating a continued cold wave this winter, has organized an emergency duty team and designated seven subcontractors to ensure prompt on-site dispatch and restoration in case of freezing incidents. It also focused on public awareness by distributing 40,000 leaflets on freezing prevention to towns, townships, and neighborhoods.
To prevent freezing, methods include turning the tap water on very slightly, filling the meter box with cloths or old blankets, covering the lid with insulation materials, and sealing it with plastic covers.
If despite these measures the meter or water pipes freeze, open the faucet and gradually thaw the connecting pipes on both sides using a hairdryer or lukewarm water.
A city official stated, “Freezing prevention of water meters can be sufficiently managed if households and businesses take primary measures. However, if the meter freezes due to severe cold, please promptly report to the Waterworks Office for assistance.”
