[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The world's first commercially produced clean ammonia is arriving at Ulsan Port.
On the 13th at 2 p.m., Ulsan City will hold a blue ammonia arrival ceremony at the Lotte Fine Chemical ammonia terminal.
The event will be attended by Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and officials from related organizations and companies.
The blue ammonia introduced by Lotte Fine Chemical is 50,000 tons contracted last October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and has received the world's first global certification.
Initially, 25,000 tons produced by Sabic Agri-Nutrients and Aramco will arrive on this day, and the remaining 25,000 tons produced by Ma’aden are scheduled to arrive within the year.
Although there have been agreements for clean hydrogen and ammonia supply, this is the first international case of commercially produced clean ammonia being supplied. This marks the starting point of the global clean energy transition unfolding in Ulsan.
Kim Yong-seok, CEO of Lotte Fine Chemical, said, “This world's first clean ammonia arrival ceremony is a symbolic milestone for the global clean energy transition,” adding, “Based on Lotte Fine Chemical’s No. 1 ammonia distribution infrastructure in East Asia, we will strive to make Korea a clean energy hub in Asia.”
Abdulrahman Shamsaddin, CEO of Sabic Agri-Nutrients, said, “We continue our efforts to provide low-carbon energy solutions,” and added, “Through the supply of clean ammonia, which will be a historic milestone, we will strengthen cooperation with Lotte Fine Chemical and use this as an opportunity for the company to further pursue sustainability and innovation.”
