Naju-si Selected as an 'Excellent Institution' in the 2022 Landscape Administration Evaluation Report
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City in Jeollanam-do was selected as an excellent institution for the first time in the '2022 Landscape Administration Evaluation' hosted by Jeollanam-do.
According to the city on the 13th, this evaluation is promoted by Jeollanam-do to enhance the landscape administrative capabilities of local governments in the province and to systematically manage beautiful landscapes. Excellent local governments are selected and awarded through document screening and on-site evaluation by external experts.
The city was included among the six cities and counties that passed the first screening out of 22 cities and counties in the province and was selected as an excellent institution after the on-site evaluation.
The 'Yeonggang-dong Landscape Improvement' project, which was the subject of the on-site evaluation (project), was carried out in the Yeonggang-dong (Yeokjeon Village) area located across the Yeongsan River from the Yeongsanpo Skatefish Street.
Through the 'Yeonggang-dong Green Riverside Village Development' project, the city extensively renovated vacant houses and communal land that impaired the village landscape and created resident rest areas such as a pavilion and shelters.
On the faded and aged retaining wall measuring 300m in length and 5m in height, adjacent to the Yeongsan Bridge intersection, tile murals and photo walls imbued with the unique taste, style, and feeling of Yeongsanpo were installed, transforming it into a street where people want to walk.
Also, through the home repair support project, the city cleaned and painted the exterior walls of 41 old houses along the roads in Yeonggang-dong 3-4 districts, and by reflecting residents' opinions, engraved flower murals to present a bright and lively village landscape, receiving high praise in the on-site evaluation.
Earlier, the city proved its outstanding administrative capabilities in the landscape field by winning the Excellence Award at the 7th Jeollanam-do Eco-friendly Design Contest last month with the 'Geumseongsan Ecological Forest' and being selected as an excellent institution in this landscape administration evaluation.
A city official said, "The Yeonggang-dong landscape improvement project contributed to improving residents' quality of life and creating a neighborhood where people want to continue living by linking simple landscape improvement with residential environment maintenance and urban regeneration," adding, "We will continue to strive to create distinctive landscapes through the establishment of next year's landscape plan and public design promotion plan and to discover contest projects."
