KCSC Deletes and Blocks 1,072 Sensational and Derogatory Posts Related to Itaewon Disaster
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] The Communications Deliberation Subcommittee of the Korea Communications Standards Commission announced that it held a total of 12 meetings by the 8th since the Itaewon tragedy and deleted or blocked 1,072 related pieces of information.
The information was identified through monitoring and complaint reception over the past month and includes shocking and horrific photos and videos related to the Itaewon tragedy, as well as derogatory posts about the deceased and their families. Among these, 832 cases were subject to correction requests, and 240 cases were subject to voluntary regulation by service providers.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission stated, "The internet is a space where anyone can freely express their opinions, but regarding accidents with many casualties, self-regulation efforts by users and service providers are necessary," adding, "We plan to actively respond through continuous complaint reception and monitoring."
