'Measures to Stop Standing Passengers on Metropolitan Buses'... Gyeonggi-do to Deploy Additional Charter Buses from the 5th
20 Chartered Buses for Commute Deployed on 16 Routes in 5 Cities and Counties
10 Additional Regular Buses on 4 Routes in Seongnam City Starting from the 12th
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 1st that "to alleviate the inconvenience to residents caused by the 'ban on standing passengers on metropolitan buses,' 20 charter buses will be additionally deployed during commuting hours starting from the 5th."
According to the province, the affected routes include a total of 16 lines across 5 cities/counties: ▲ Hwaseong City with 4 routes (6001, 6003, 6002, G6009) ▲ Seongnam City with 4 routes (G8110, 3330 - 2 buses, 3500, 8106) ▲ Suwon City with 2 routes (1112 - 2 buses, 2007 - 2 buses) ▲ Yongin City with 4 routes (5500-2 - 2 buses, 5006, 1550, 5001) ▲ Namyangju City with 2 routes (1003, 1006).
This measure follows the suspension of standing passenger boarding by 14 metropolitan bus companies affiliated with the KD Transportation Group since the 18th of last month. In addition to charter buses, the province plans to deploy 14 newly released double-decker electric buses (from single deck 45 seats to double deck 70 seats) on 2 routes in Hwaseong City (7790, 1006) by the 20th of this month.
For the high-demand routes in Seongnam City (333, 3330, 3500, 8106), 10 regular buses will be added starting from the 12th.
Previously, from the 21st to the 28th of last month, the province deployed 24 buses including charter buses during commuting hours on 14 routes across 6 cities/counties such as Gwangju City’s 500-2 route, making a total of 44 buses deployed in response to the 'ban on standing passengers on metropolitan buses.'
In September, the province announced the '2nd countermeasure to resolve the metropolitan bus standing passenger issue' and formed a 'Metropolitan Bus Standing Passenger Response Council' with the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee, Seoul City, and Incheon City, planning to increase metropolitan bus operations by a total of 195 trips.
Additionally, consultations will be held with the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee and Seoul City to prepare the '3rd countermeasure to resolve the metropolitan bus standing passenger issue.'
