Yun Byeong-tae, Mayor of Naju, Requests Support for Current Projects at National Balanced Development Committee Visit
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] On the 28th, Yoon Byung-tae, mayor of Naju City, visited the National Balanced Development Committee (Chairman Woo Dong-gi) at the Government Seoul Office and requested interest and cooperation on major pending projects such as the second relocation of public institutions in Naju Innovation City.
According to the city on the 30th, Mayor Yoon sought advice on the National Balanced Development Committee’s conceptual plan and promotion strategy for establishing a strategy to promote the second relocation of public institutions in the innovation city through a meeting with Chairman Woo Dong-gi.
The National Balanced Development Committee expects the second relocation of public institutions, a key issue in national balanced development, to be realized from the end of next year, focusing on relocating about 360 medium-sized public institutions with 200 to 400 employees each.
This conceptual plan was directly revealed by Chairman Woo Dong-gi at the ‘Asia Forum 21’ discussion meeting for Daegu and Gyeongbuk journalists held in Daegu on the 17th.
The city plans to focus administrative efforts on attracting institutions and affiliated facilities that are highly related to the 16 public institutions relocated in the first phase to the innovation city or that can maximize synergy in areas of regional comparative advantage, by forming a ‘Public Institution Second Relocation TF Team’ led by Deputy Mayor Kang Young-gu.
In particular, the city intends to proactively secure relocation sites through datafication of closed schools and idle land by usage within the jurisdiction, and to concretize differentiated attraction strategies from other local governments, such as tax benefits, support for relocating employees, improvement of living conditions including education, culture, and transportation, and provision of incentives.
Following Chairman Woo, Mayor Yoon met with Lee Jung-hyun, Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee’s Strategic Planning Committee, and Yoon Sang-hyun, member of the National Assembly from the People Power Party, to actively request cooperation on the high-efficiency power semiconductor demonstration center, ultra-high-power laser research facility attraction, and the Yeongsan River reservoir integrated river project.
Mayor Yoon said, “Naju is the optimal location to foster the next-generation high-efficiency power semiconductor industry as it houses the RE100 National Energy Industrial Complex, Korea Energy Engineering University, and Korea Electric Power Corporation,” adding, “I explained the feasibility of attracting the ‘Next-Generation High-Efficiency Power Semiconductor Demonstration Center’ to Naju to Chairman Lee Jung-hyun.”
At the meeting with Assemblyman Yoon Sang-hyun, he proposed policy support for a customized integrated river project in the Yeongsan River Naju district, encompassing flood control, water management, and waterfront projects, to increase environmental awareness by linking rest, experience, and leisure activities utilizing the Yeongsan River’s ecological landscape.
He also requested support to attract the ‘Ultra-High-Power Laser Research Facility’ to Naju to expand the national basic research infrastructure and secure global competitiveness in the advanced laser industry.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae stated, “Along with the second relocation of public institutions, we will promote regional balanced development of science and technology and foster Naju into a world-class advanced science city through the attraction of the next-generation high-efficiency power semiconductor demonstration center and ultra-high-power laser research facility.”
