GS Retail stated that it has taken a significant step to actively increase RMR products by collaborating with Caviar, a gourmet curation platform that has secured the largest scale of intellectual property (IP) and RMR from famous domestic chefs and restaurants in Korea. To this end, GS Retail invested 2 billion KRW in Caviar and decided to focus on expanding synergy through mutual strategic cooperation.
Caviar, led by CEO Park Youngsik, the second generation of Samwon Garden, is a company that curates food from well-known chefs and restaurants recognized by the Michelin Guide, Blue Ribbon, and Baeknyeon Gage, releasing them as RMR so that consumers can enjoy gourmet food in their daily lives. Last year, it also opened its own online mall to sell famous RMR products for gourmets.
Through collaboration with Caviar, GS Retail plans to promote ▲launching lunchboxes and instant food using signature menus from famous restaurants ▲collaborative development of GS Retail exclusive and exclusive products ▲planning the opening of GS25 flagship stores.
GS Retail will especially utilize the various restaurant brands and recipes owned by Caviar to develop products aiming to launch lunchboxes and instant foods around the first half of next year. In addition, GS Retail will actively pursue the development of exclusive products unique to itself, further enhancing the competitiveness of differentiated products at GS25, the supermarket GS The Fresh, and the online grocery mall GS Fresh Mall. Along with this, GS Retail is also planning to open GS25 flagship stores and will carry out place marketing collaboration as unique stores in areas with active MZ generation foot traffic to reach customers.
The reason GS Retail aims to increase product competitiveness through RMR products is that products collaborated with famous restaurants are making remarkable progress. Sales of RMR products sold at GS Fresh Mall until October this year increased by 234.5% compared to the same period last year, and the number of items has increased to about 500, with RMR products leading the sales of frozen convenience foods.
