At the 2022 World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) held at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia until this day, Mikel Azcona of the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team, competing with the Elantra N TCR, secured the championship by earning 8 points on the first day.
He maintained the top driver position by winning the opening race as well as the 3rd, 4th, and 8th rounds. The BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse team also achieved the overall team victory thanks to the performances of Mikel Azcona and Norbert Michelisz. Previously, in 2018 and 2019, other drivers had won the overall driver championship with the i30N TCR race car.
