Gwangju Seo-gu Launches Water Conservation Campaign... Full Effort to Overcome Drought
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) is drawing attention by quickly responding to the large-scale water-saving campaign for residents to overcome the severe drought.
According to Seo-gu on the 24th, the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions are facing a crisis where the water sources, Dongbok Dam and Juam Dam, could be depleted by the end of March next year if the current severe drought trend continues.
To practice water saving by reducing water pressure in the water supply band, Seo-gu has been conducting a water pressure adjustment status survey since the 21st targeting 214 apartment complexes and 88,425 households in Seo-gu.
As a result of the water pressure adjustment status survey, households wishing to adjust their water pressure will have their pressure adjusted through direct visits by the apartment management office and community leaders.
Some apartments voluntarily participated in the water pressure adjustment, showing exemplary cases where all households completed the adjustment.
In addition, for detached houses and commercial buildings, water-saving practices are encouraged by providing guidance on water pressure adjustment methods during water meter readings, and after the guidance, the respective community leaders visited each household to directly confirm whether adjustments were made.
Promotional activities for water-saving practices are also being carried out in various ways.
Water-saving announcement broadcasts are aired daily in apartments within the district, and promotional banners have been posted in 171 apartment complexes with more than 100 households.
Furthermore, in 18 neighborhoods, self-governing organizations composed of residents such as resident autonomy committees, community leaders, and support councils are conducting water-saving campaigns on main streets to promote awareness and distributing promotional leaflets.
In the future, Seo-gu’s private organizations such as the Volunteer Center, Saemaeul Association, Barugesalgi Council, Federation of Freedom, and Veterans Association will continue to carry out water-saving campaigns at major locations within the district.
A Seo-gu official said, “Since 68% of water usage occurs in general households, residents’ participation in the water-saving campaign is absolutely necessary,” adding, “We will actively promote so that all residents can feel the water shortage crisis and participate in practical water-saving efforts.”
