Hyundai Steel Holds the Most World-Class Products in the Steel Industry for 18 Consecutive Years
New Registration of 'Pressure Vessel Steel Pipes' as Core Materials for Storage and Transportation of Crude Oil and Natural Gas
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Hyundai Steel has added one new product to its list of world-class products this year, maintaining its status as the steel industry leader with the most world-class products for 18 consecutive years.
Hyundai Steel announced on the 24th, "At the recent 2022 World-Class Product Certification Ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the 'SAW A671/A672 Steel Pipe for Pressure Vessels' was newly selected as a world-class product, bringing the total number of world-class products to 12."
The steel pipe for pressure vessels is an essential pipe used for storing and transporting energy raw materials such as crude oil, natural gas, and LNG, as well as chemical products. It possesses performance characteristics suitable for material properties such as high temperature, high pressure, and cryogenic conditions. Additionally, it is a steel that must guarantee stability against external shocks such as earthquakes and gusts, requiring workability, weldability, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance.
The newly registered world-class product this year, 'SAW A671/A672 Steel Pipe for Pressure Vessels,' is used in energy and chemical facilities such as power plants and plants, and is among the highest strength products in SAW well pipes.
Hyundai Steel enhanced its status as a "comprehensive steel company for industrial materials" by registering the 'SAW A671/A672 Steel Pipe for Pressure Vessels' three years after newly listing the ERW door impact beam as a world-class product in 2019.
SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) refers to a welding method that protects the weld area by shielding it from the atmosphere during welding. ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) is a welding method where the materials to be welded are brought into contact, and pressure is applied when the temperature of the joint surface rises due to resistance heat generated by passing current.
The World-Class Product system is a program recognized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), which comprehensively evaluates global market share, production volume, export scale, and other factors to select products with global competitiveness and growth potential.
Since Hyundai Steel began selecting world-class products in 2001, it has registered two products?H-beams and hot-rolled centrifugal casting tool steel rolls (HSS ROLL)?as world-class products. In 2005, it added four more products including infinite track, unequal angle, steel sheet piles, and stern castings, bringing the total to six world-class products.
Although stern castings were excluded in 2015, well pipes were newly selected as world-class products. In 2017, industrial boiler pipes, and in 2018, four products including automotive hot stamping products and parallel channels were added, followed by the ERW door impact beam in 2019, maintaining the largest number of world-class products in the steel industry.
