Ssangyong C&E, No.1 in Cement Industry at '2022 Korea Sustainability Index (KSI)'
High Evaluation in Sustainable Resource Use and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction for Climate Change Mitigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jonghwa] Ssangyong C&E has been selected as the No. 1 company in the cement industry in the "2022 Korea Sustainability Index (KSI)" announced by the Korea Standard Association's ESG Management Promotion Team. Ssangyong C&E has earned the honor of being ranked first for nine consecutive years since its first award in 2013, and the award ceremony was held on the 24th at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
The 2022 Korea Sustainability Index (KSI) survey was conducted based on stakeholder participation, a core element of sustainable management, and ISO 26000, the global guideline for sustainable management implementation. This survey is the only model that evaluates the sustainability of industries and companies in Korea, with a committee composed of ESG experts overseeing evaluation-related decision-making to ensure objectivity and reliability.
The survey involved a total of 26,530 samples of stakeholders and experts from 49 industries and 210 companies and institutions in Korea. The survey samples consisted of investors, consumers, partners, employees, and local residents, and evaluations were based mainly on urgency and responsiveness indices. Specifically, the evaluation targeted the seven core subjects of ISO 26000, such as organizational governance, environment, fair operating practices, and consumer issues, along with 40 related sub-issues.
Ssangyong C&E received favorable evaluations in areas such as "sustainable resource use," "greenhouse gas emission reduction for climate change mitigation," and "pollution prevention and emission management," as well as positive assessments in items like "strengthening accountability of management decision-makers" and "compliance with and promotion of fair competition practices."
