KT and Zoom Expand 'B2B Video Conferencing' Market
Corporate-exclusive 'Zoom Phone' to Launch Next Year, Same Number Usable on Overseas Business Trips
New Services to be Developed Next Year, Collaboration Solutions + Video Meetings
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] KT announced on the 23rd that it has signed a partnership with global video communication platform company Zoom, becoming the first domestic telecom company to combine telecommunications and platform services to offer business-to-business (B2B) services.
Through this partnership, both companies will promote ▲ the expansion of Zoom Meetings in the domestic market ▲ the concept of Zoom Phone service integrated with KT’s enterprise phone functions ▲ and plans to link products including KT’s wired and wireless collaboration solution, Mobile Talk. Headquartered in California, USA, Zoom is a video conferencing platform technology company enabling remote work and video-based communication. As early as this year, domestic companies will be able to contract and use Zoom Meetings through KT. Zoom Meetings is Zoom’s flagship video communication platform that allows free access and exchange of opinions without restrictions on time, space, or device.
New linked services will also be developed. Zoom Phone, which combines Zoom Meetings with KT numbers to provide calling functions, is scheduled to launch next year. Zoom Phone is a cloud-based service that replaces the existing complex enterprise phone infrastructure and offers the latest versions of video conferencing, regular calls, and recording. No separate equipment installation or replacement is required. Zoom Phone supports group calls regardless of wired or wireless connections and can be used with the assigned number without roaming applications even during overseas business trips. Linking Zoom Phone with the company phone number also makes it easier to separate work and daily life.
The functions of KT’s mobile collaboration solution, which provides mobile-based business extension calls, chat, and organizational charts, are also expected to be enhanced. By linking with Zoom Meetings, it will be possible to combine video conferencing functions with wired and wireless call-based collaboration solutions. The enterprise telecommunications market is growing. KT’s B2B telecommunications and digital platform business revenue increased from 3.8 trillion KRW in 2020 to 4 trillion KRW in 2021.
Ricky Kapoor, Head of Zoom Asia Pacific, said, "We are pleased to provide Korean companies with a safe and improved collaboration experience through our partnership with KT," adding, "We will focus more on supporting business growth for companies in line with the needs of the remote and non-face-to-face work environment that has become common after COVID-19."
