Jin Park, Korea-Kenya Foreign Ministers' Meeting Discusses 'Practical Cooperation Measures'

Expectations for Cooperation in Various Fields Including Economy, Nuclear Energy, and Human Exchange
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Foreign Minister Park Jin and Kenyan Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua held talks on the 22nd to discuss ways to expand practical cooperation between the two countries and cooperation on the international stage.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Park met with Minister Mutua at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on the same day and expressed hope that the visit of the Kenyan president to Korea, the first in 32 years, would further deepen the friendly cooperative relationship that has developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1964.
Minister Mutua is visiting Korea as a member of the delegation accompanying Kenyan President William Ruto during his official visit from the previous day until the 25th.
Minister Park emphasized that Kenya is an East African logistics and economic hub and an important partner of the Korean government in economic and development sectors, expressing hope that cooperation in various fields such as economy, development, nuclear energy, and human exchange will expand further in the future.
In response, Minister Mutua expressed hope for expanded economic cooperation, including increased Korean investment in Kenya, and emphasized the need to expand cooperation in agriculture, health, defense, and human exchange sectors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Furthermore, Minister Park evaluated Kenya's leading role in resolving African conflicts and other issues as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2021?22, and requested support for Korea's bid to become a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2024?25 and for hosting the 2030 World Expo in Busan.

Minister Mutua expressed deep concern over unprecedented provocations such as North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and agreed on the need for a united response from the Security Council and the international community.
