Kakao Holds First Meeting of Compensation Council for 'Blackout Incident' Victims
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] Kakao announced on the 22nd that the ‘1015 Damage Support Council,’ formed to compensate and support service disruption damages caused by the fire at the SK C&C Data Center in Pangyo, held its first meeting on the 21st.
The meeting was attended by Kakao CEO Hong Eun-taek, Senior Vice President Song Ji-hye, as well as ▲Chairman Oh Se-hee, Auditor Kim Ki-hong, and Director Cha Nam-su of the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise ▲CEO Choi Sung-jin of Korea Startup Forum ▲Secretary General Jung Ji-yeon of the Korea Consumer Federation ▲and experts in fair trade and consumer protection.
Kakao briefly introduced the damage cases received through official channels to the council and agreed to provide the entire data to the council. The council agreed to thoroughly analyze the damage cases provided by Kakao and, after sufficient discussion, promptly establish reasonable standards and policies.
Oh Se-hee, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise, said, “I hope measures will be taken for the majority of small business owners using the Kakao platform so that such incidents never happen again. I hope the positions will be well coordinated through this council.”
