US Ambassador in Korea on Sunday: "China Fails to Play Its Role in North Korea's Missile Launches"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] Lam Emanuel, the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, criticized China for not playing its role regarding North Korea's consecutive launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and other ballistic missiles, NHK Japan reported on the 21st.
At a press conference held at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan (FCCJ) in Tokyo on the same day, Ambassador Emanuel described North Korea's successive ballistic missile launches as "a threat to regional allies such as South Korea and Japan," adding, "We are responding primarily to ensure security." He also criticized China, saying, "China politically and economically supports North Korea but is not fulfilling its role sufficiently."
Regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine and Chinese President Xi Jinping's approach toward the West, Emanuel said, "President Xi seems to be trying to erase the memory of the 'Wolf Warrior diplomacy' (China's aggressive foreign policy) and the negative impact economic threats could have on China," but added, "We are watching actions, not words."
