Changwon University Department of Law held an academic seminar on the tasks of scientific policing and the protection of fundamental rights.

On the 21st, according to the university, the seminar was jointly hosted by the Gyeongnam Autonomous Police Committee, Changwon National University Future Convergence Research Institute Scientific Policing R&D Center, and Changwon National University Human Rights Center at the SAL study room of the College of Social Sciences at Changwon National University.
It was organized to take a balanced look at the issue of guaranteeing citizens' fundamental rights in line with the recent nationwide first establishment of a smart policing big data platform by the Gyeongnam Autonomous Police Committee and the activation of scientific policing.
The seminar began with an opening address by Professor Lee Janghee of the Department of Law, followed by a welcoming speech by Yoo Joosung, head of the Scientific Policing R&D Center at Changwon National University, congratulatory remarks by Choi Heegyu, dean of the Future Convergence College, and Kim Hyuntae, chairman of the Gyeongnam Autonomous Police Committee.
There was a keynote presentation by Professor Jo Sungje of Gyeongsang National University, comprehensive discussions by Professor Kim Haengwi of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Professor Lee Byungkyu of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, Professor Hong Jonghyun of Gyeongsang National University, and Professor Yoo Joosung of Changwon National University, as well as a Q&A session with graduate students from the Department of Law.
Professor Lee Janghee emphasized, “In the era of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, the use of public data containing personal information must also be carried out in accordance with constitutional requirements so that citizens' fundamental rights are respected to the greatest extent.”

He added, “This joint academic seminar is a meaningful occasion to identify and deeply discuss various legal issues related to scientific policing. We will continue to create opportunities for interdisciplinary research and discussions between science and technology and law in the Gyeongnam region.”
