Shinsegae and Hyundai Department Store Submit Business Plan for Gwangju Complex Shopping Mall

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Business plans for the construction of a complex shopping mall in Gwangju have been submitted to Shinsegae Department Store Group and Hyundai Department Store Group.
On the 21st, Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung said, “Shinsegae Department Store Group (Gwangju Shinsegae) and Hyundai Department Store Group have each submitted business plans,” adding, “We promised to transparently disclose the attraction and promotion process to the citizens. We will proceed swiftly based on transparency and fairness.”
Shinsegae Department Store Group submitted a district unit plan amendment necessary to expand the existing department store and create the Gwangju Shinsegae Art & Culture Park, rather than building the Starfield they had announced for Eodeungsan. The expansion plan for Shinsegae Department Store will be reviewed for appropriateness by the Urban Space Bureau.

The Hyundai Department Store Group’s concept, The Hyundai Gwangju, was included in the preliminary negotiation proposal for the urban planning change of the Jeonbang and Ilsin Textile sites. Gwangju City plans to hold a preliminary negotiation coordination meeting regarding the Jeonbang and Ilsin Textile sites on the 25th, and on the 29th, a complex shopping mall new vitality administrative council meeting will be held to discuss the construction of The Hyundai Gwangju.
