Gangjin-gun Leads '5 Major Practices for Energy Saving in Government Offices'
Building Energy Usage Grade A
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, is actively participating in the five major winter energy-saving practices in response to the national energy crisis by establishing an energy-saving plan for government offices and forming an inspection team to eliminate unnecessary energy waste, leading the government's energy-saving policies.
The five major practices are maintaining office heating temperature below 17°C, stopping heating operation in the Jeonnam area from 16:30 to 17:00, prohibiting the use of personal electric heaters, turning off advertising and decorative lights by 23:00, and turning off more than 30% of indoor lighting.
So far, Gangjin-gun has implemented full replacement of fluorescent lights with LED lighting inside the office, turning off half of the corridor lights, installing a human sensor power-saving system in restrooms, installing Low-E glass windows, reorganizing lighting and heating switch circuits, and reducing power consumption by about 15% through a 150 kW solar power facility. This winter, heating operation will also comply with indoor temperature regulations through a central control system.
Additionally, to encourage all employees to participate in energy saving, promotional activities are being conducted by visiting each department to improve lifestyle habits according to the five major practices and the office energy-saving plan.
For office facilities, buildings over 3,000㎡ disclose energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions to improve energy efficiency and reduce national energy consumption. According to the government website “Green Building Portal Green Together,” Gangjin-gun was confirmed to have an A grade.
Buildings are rated from A to E, with A indicating institutions that save energy per unit area compared to buildings of the same scale.
Baek Kyung-ja, head of the Tax Accounting Division, said, “Since the leading role of public institutions is very important in practicing energy saving, we will continuously manage to maintain Gangjin-gun’s A grade steadily.”
