The county received the honor again after winning the award in 2020.
The "Reading Municipality Grand Prize" award started in 2016 as part of the "Making a Reading Nation Movement" and is given to outstanding municipalities that have contributed to the formation of a reading culture and the development of Reading Korea.
This year, Wando-gun, along with Yeoncheon-gun, Jeungpyeong-gun, Gwangmyeong-si, Dongdaemun-gu, and Donghae-si, were selected, and the awards ceremony was held on the 11th at the Chungmu Art Center Convention Hall.
Wando-gun achieved the goal of "one library per eup/myeon" by starting the "Sinji Sunshine Small Library" in 2014 and completing the "Gogeum Gosari Small Library" in 2021.
Through the expansion of libraries in island areas like this, it has established a cooperative system with public libraries, continuously supporting the creation of a reading culture and the expansion of the reading population base, and has been highly evaluated for providing opportunities to enjoy culture by operating visiting cultural programs.
A county official said, "We will strive to create a reading environment so that residents' book use increases and the reading culture can be further activated."
Meanwhile, the Wando County Library was recognized for its role in cultural enjoyment despite the difficult situation caused by COVID-19 and won the "54th Korea Library Award Grand Prize" last April.
