[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province collected 8.1 billion KRW through encouraging payment of overdue amounts targeting Daepocha vehicles.
Daepocha refers to vehicles that are operated without transferring ownership or without subscribing to compulsory insurance.
From March to October, Gyeonggi Province, in cooperation with city and county offices, identified 21,117 suspected Daepocha vehicles among those with over one year of unpaid automobile tax by checking compulsory insurance subscription status with the cooperation of the Insurance Development Institute, and collected 8.144 billion KRW in overdue payments, the province announced on the 20th.
For vehicles that could not be contacted, measures such as license plate seizure (1,150 vehicles), forced towing (47 vehicles), and public auction (80 vehicles) were taken. The remaining vehicles are under detailed investigation by city and county offices.
During the investigation, 110 vehicles confirmed to be uninsured were ordered to suspend operation, as they were considered potentially involved in crimes.
