[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon ·photo) announced that it has been selected as an ‘Excellent Internal Audit Organization’ for two consecutive years in the ‘Internal Audit Activity Review’ conducted by the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) and received a commendation from the BAI Chairman.
The BAI annually reviews the internal audit activities of applicable institutions under the ‘Public Audit Act’ to promote improvement and development of internal audits and enhance audit capabilities.
This review is conducted for a total of 669 institutions, including central administrative agencies, local governments, and public enterprises, with targets classified through document review and on-site inspection according to the size and nature of the institution’s work. The review areas consist of four categories: audit infrastructure, audit activities, audit outcomes, and follow-up management.
Yeongdeungpo-gu received an A grade in all areas and was selected as an ‘Excellent Internal Audit Organization’ for two consecutive years among district-level local governments nationwide, with outstanding employees receiving commendations from the BAI Chairman.
Since 2016, the district has operated a specialist system in the audit and investigation fields to secure the expertise of the internal audit organization and established a systematic audit system from audit planning to execution and follow-up management.
Additionally, efforts were made to improve unfair subcontracting corruption through the appointment of ‘Citizen Auditors.’ The establishment of the ‘Audit Case Keyword Search System’ and the publication of internal casebooks such as ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Audit Cases and Contract Reviews’ were highly recognized for sharing various cases with all employees and encouraging voluntary work improvement.
Furthermore, the district actively promoted various anti-corruption and integrity projects, focusing on enhancing fairness, expertise, and transparency throughout the district administration. It also worked hard to conduct substantial and practical internal audits, including the active administration exemption system, specific audits for vulnerable areas, and safety accident prevention.
Building on this award, the district plans to further accelerate the establishment of an ‘Active Administration-Friendly Audit System’ by continuously striving to ▲ promote strategic audit activities for district administration performance ▲ strengthen preventive audit activities ▲ enhance the expertise of audit personnel.
