Beach Combing is a compound word of beach and combing. It refers to the activity of picking up and collecting marine debris and trash as if combing the beach.
The participants this time were 60 ‘new employee interns’ scheduled to join the company in January next year. They were divided into two teams of 30 each and carried out volunteer activities on the 9th and 17th respectively. They walked for about 5 km from Jukdo Beach in Yangyang to Ingok Beach for 60 minutes, collecting marine litter along the way.
This activity was part of Hanwha Life Insurance’s employee volunteer work, designed to help prospective new employees learn unity and a sense of social responsibility.
It was also a program conducted at Hanwha Life Insurance’s remote workplace called ‘Remote Workplace.’ The prospective new employees stayed at the Breed Hotel, a remote workplace located in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, and participated in picking up trash washed ashore nearby.
The Hanwha Life Insurance Remote Workplace system is being implemented with the purpose of working in unique locations away from the current workplaces such as the headquarters’ 63 Building to generate new ideas.
Kim Jeonghoon (28 years old, male), a prospective new employee who participated in the volunteer activity that day, said, “While picking up trash abandoned on the coast, 50 bags of 30 liters each were filled in just one hour.” He added, “I felt rewarded to participate in protecting the local community and environment by picking up marine debris that could affect citizens’ safety, such as cigarette butts, styrofoam, firework remnants, and broken glass.”
