On the 16th (local time), the PGA Tour announced at the RSM Classic venue in St. Simons Island, Georgia, USA, that "Kim Seong-hyun has been selected as this year's Korn Ferry Tour Rookie of the Year." The Rookie of the Year award on the Korn Ferry Tour is decided by votes from fellow players.
Kim Seong-hyun participated in 22 tournaments, achieving two runner-up finishes and earning prize money totaling $287,569 (approximately 380 million KRW).
The Korn Ferry Tour Rookie of the Year award has been presented since 2018. Im Sung-jae (24) was the inaugural recipient. In 2019, Scottie Scheffler, who later reached world number one, won the award, and during the combined 2020-2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Grayson Sigg (both from the USA) was named the top rookie.
Kim Seong-hyun is regarded as one of the most promising players for the future. He won the Korean Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Championship in 2020 and the Japan PGA Championship in 2021.
Kim Seong-hyun expressed his joy, saying, "It is a tremendous honor. There were many strong competitors, so I did not expect to win, making this an amazing result." He added, "2022 was a very happy time. I am glad to have advanced to the PGA Tour sooner than expected, and I will work hard aiming for both Rookie of the Year and tournament victories on the PGA Tour."
