In this competition hosted by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, the ‘Team Weible’ members Kim Tae-yong, Park Hye-min, Heo Jun-yong, and Kwon Dae-woong from Pukyong National University’s Department of Earth Environmental System Science were selected as awardees for their outstanding evaluation in the data utilization and idea category.
The Pukyong University team was recognized for their project titled ‘Classification of Research Topics and Analysis of Research Trends in Domestic Geology Using Machine Learning-Based Topic Models’ in this competition.
They used a large-scale academic database provided by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources to train an artificial intelligence model called a topic model, automatically classifying research topics and attempting to interpret phenomena using related statistical techniques.
By using the framework they proposed, multidisciplinary geology researchers and researchers from related academic fields can be guided on future research directions.
Additionally, it is expected that their classification criteria for conference presentations and journal submissions will facilitate more diverse discussions on various research topics.
