Establishes Dedicated Communication Infrastructure... "Developing Infotainment and Content Integration Services"
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] LG Uplus announced on the 13th that starting January next year, it will provide wireless communication lines for Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia vehicles, brands under Hyundai Motor Group, sold in the domestic market.
Establishment of Dedicated Communication Infrastructure for Hyundai Motor Group
LG Uplus has been providing wireless communication lines to Hyundai Motor Group since 2003 and has offered communication services for some Kia models since 2019. From next year, LG Uplus's wireless communication will be used in all Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia models that utilize connected car services. Connected cars refer to vehicles that provide various services through the connection between the vehicle system and wireless communication networks.
Since last year, LG Uplus has been building a dualized communication infrastructure exclusively for Hyundai Motor Group, creating a communication environment that ensures uninterrupted and accident-free service 24/7, 365 days a year. Additionally, it established a dedicated operation team and has continuously invested in technology development related to connected cars.
LG Uplus introduced eUICC (embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card), which has obtained the automotive electronic component certification standard (AEC-Q100) that protects vehicle systems even in extreme environments such as temperature, vibration, dust, and humidity, and built related systems. It is the only domestic telecom company participating in Hyundai Mobis's future car 'Software Development Cooperation Ecosystem Consortium' and has also made equity investments in the web platform company OBIGO.
Developing In-Vehicle Services such as Idleunara and Spoky
Along with this, LG Uplus won the Red Dot Award, one of the world's top three design awards, last year for its AI voice recognition-based Uplus Drive service that can be enjoyed inside vehicles. It is developing its specialized content?education (Idleunara), sports platform (Spoky), and entertainment (Idolplus)?as in-vehicle services.
Starting next year, LG Uplus will build dedicated communication infrastructure to enable customers to use large volumes of data quickly and reliably in all connected car vehicles produced by Hyundai Motor Group. It will also provide technical support such as ▲ allocation of specialized network resources for wireless software update (OTA) services ▲ management of high-quality streaming service traffic.
