Jeong Kim, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member, Demands Intensive Crackdown on Overloaded Vehicles on Yi Sun-sin Bridge
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] There has been a claim that the cause of defects in the Jeonnam Yi Sun-sin Bridge is overloaded vehicles, and that enforcement should be strengthened.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Council on the 10th, Assemblyman Kim Jeong-i (Democratic Party·Suncheon 8) demanded active enforcement during the administrative audit of the Jeonnam Provincial Construction and Transportation Bureau, stating, "The main cause of defects in the Yi Sun-sin Bridge is overloaded vehicles."
Assemblyman Kim Jeong-i stated, "The Yi Sun-sin Bridge, which connects industrial complexes such as chemical and steel, requires an annual maintenance cost of 6 billion KRW," and added, "After the defect repair period ends in the first half of next year, costs exceeding approximately 10 billion KRW per year will occur."
He continued, "The defects occurring in the Yi Sun-sin Bridge include subsidence and displacement, and subsidence and displacement are mostly caused by overloaded vehicles," he pointed out.
He also emphasized, "Most of the cargo volume using the Yi Sun-sin Bridge passes through Gwangyang to Yeosu," and said, "It is necessary to identify the cargo volume of companies traveling between the POSCO-related complex and the Yeocheon industrial complex, focus enforcement on overloaded vehicles, and preemptively inform industrial complex companies to prohibit loading beyond standards."
