Hyeonam 100th Birth Anniversary Committee to Hold Ceremony on 10th
Commemorative Book Published... Exhibition Also Held Until 17th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] Hanwha Group is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Chairman Kim Jong-hee, by publishing a commemorative book and holding an exhibition to reexamine Chairman Kim's achievements.
The Hyunam 100th Anniversary Commemoration Committee held a ceremony on the 10th at the 63 Convention Center in Seoul to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hyunam's birth. Chairman Kim Seung-yeon, Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan of Hanwha Solutions, Vice President Kim Dong-won of Hanwha Life Insurance, and Specialist Kim Dong-seon of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, along with senior group members, affiliate representatives, and executives attended.
The ceremony, held under the theme "Flame, Becoming a Greater Light," included a commemorative video screening, retrospectives by senior group members, dedication of the commemorative book, and a commemorative performance.
In his commemorative speech, Chairman Kim Seung-yeon stated, "It was thanks to Chairman Hyunam's indomitable challenge and pioneering insight that today's Republic of Korea stands tall on the world stage," adding, "I hope everyone gains wisdom and courage for tomorrow and carries their own flame in their hearts."
Ryu Seong-woo, an advisor and the first secretary-general of Bukil High School, praised Chairman Kim Jong-hee in his retrospective, saying, "He was an indomitable pioneer who fulfilled the aspiration for domestic production of explosives and an innovator who advanced the future of Korea's industrialization through businesses that formed the foundation of national development."
Additionally, the commemorative book "Flame, Into a Greater Light" is scheduled to be published on the 11th. It contains Chairman Kim's life story from the perspective of a businessman, his management philosophy, and his lesser-known personal side.
The commemorative exhibition will also be held from the 11th until the 17th of next month at the Hanwha Museum located in Seosomun. The main feature of the exhibition consists of works by renowned artists such as Professor Lee Kang-hwa, Park Seung-mo, Lee Se-hyun, and Park Geun-ho, who have reinterpreted the life journey of Hyunam Kim Jong-hee.

Hyunam Kim Jong-hee, the founder of Korea Explosives, the predecessor of Hanwha, devoted himself to the explosives industry based on the management philosophy of serving the nation through business. He led the reconstruction of the country devastated by the Korean War through the domestic production of dynamite, earning the nickname "Korea's Nobel." As an educational entrepreneur, he established Bukil High School, and as a private diplomat, he played a significant role in building strong diplomatic relations with countries such as the United States and Greece. November 12 marks the 100th anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong-hee's birth.
