According to Korea Gas Corporation on the 10th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy notified the corporation that Choi, a former lawmaker, was appointed as the new president of the Gas Corporation following the review and resolution of the Public Institution Management Committee the previous day.
A Gas Corporation official said, "She is scheduled to be officially appointed after the board meeting next week and the shareholders' meeting in early next month."
The newly nominated president Choi is a former lawmaker of the Liberty Korea Party, the predecessor of the People Power Party, and was active in Yoon Seok-yeol's presidential campaign.
In terms of public institution leadership experience, she served as the president of Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) from 2013 to 2016, but is considered a non-expert in the energy sector.
Meanwhile, Korea District Heating Corporation is also scheduled to hold a shareholders' meeting on the 18th to appoint Jeong Yong-gi, a former Liberty Korea Party lawmaker, as the new president.
