UN: World Population to Surpass 8 Billion in Mid-June
World Population to Surpass 8 Billion This Month... Tripled in 70 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The world population is expected to surpass 8 billion next week.
According to foreign media on the 6th (local time), the United Nations announced that the world population will reach 8 billion on the 15th. This matches the projection in the UN's "World Population Prospects 2022" report released on July 11, World Population Day.
The global population growth rate peaked in the early 1960s. Since then, it has sharply slowed down, falling below 1% in 2020, but the population continues to increase.
The UN estimated that due to increased life expectancy and a growing population of people of reproductive age, the world population will reach approximately 8.5 billion by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050, and about 10.4 billion by 2080.
