Kim Gi-yong, Former Head of Research at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, Appointed as the First Director of Busan Modern History Museum
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Kim Kiyong, former Curator of the Korea National Museum of Contemporary History, has been appointed as the inaugural director of the Busan Modern History Museum.
On the 7th, Busan City announced that since September, it conducted an open recruitment for the position of director of the Busan Modern History Museum, receiving applications from four candidates. After evaluation by the selection committee, Kim was chosen as the new director.
New Director Kim Kiyong graduated from Busan Gaya High School and Kyung Hee University with a degree in History, and completed his master's degree and doctoral coursework at the same university's graduate school.
From 1998 to 2020, Kim served under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, working at the National Archives, the Presidential Office Speech Records Secretariat, and the Korea National Museum of Contemporary History. He previously held positions such as Head of Exhibition Operations and Curator at the Korea National Museum of Contemporary History.

The Busan Modern History Museum is scheduled to open in June next year. It is being constructed on a site of 5,146㎡, combining the former Bank of Korea Busan Headquarters and the Busan Modern History Museum, with a total floor area of 9,061㎡. It will be developed as a cultural complex space for performances, events, and on-site education, and plans to remain open to citizens even at night.
