View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Ham Young-joo, Chairman of Hana Financial Group, stated, "Next year, we will actively expand investments in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) sectors, including clean energy-related businesses."
According to Hana Financial on the 6th, Chairman Ham said at a climate crisis response meeting with Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) held on the 4th at the Myeongdong headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul, "Hana Financial recognizes climate risk as a potential threat and is proactively responding to it."
MSCI is a financial market research firm that provides the MSCI index, a reference investment index for global investors, stock portfolio analysis tools, and publishes ESG rating reports of major listed companies worldwide.
Chairman Ham and Chairman Fernandez discussed carbon neutrality measures in response to the climate crisis, including opportunities and risks in the carbon economy, and deliberated on ways to lead the ESG financial market.
Chairman Ham emphasized, "While this year we focused on identifying and managing climate change risks, next year we plan to concentrate on developing a system to measure financial emissions (carbon emissions from asset portfolios)." He added, "We will practice transparent ESG management with a sense of responsibility for climate change and various social issues."
Henry Fernandez, Chairman of MSCI, stated, "We must focus our capabilities on expanding ESG finance in the financial market, where the transition to a low-carbon economy and global market instability are intensifying."

He continued, "Climate change is both a risk and an opportunity factor leading to the expansion of the ESG financial market. In particular, reflecting this trend, the transition to sustainable bonds should be actively carried out in the Korean bond market, and I hope Hana Financial can lead this change."
