The city education office held the discussion from the 28th to the 2nd for four days at the Park Sang-jin Hall of the Ulsan Education Research Information Center, targeting representatives of parent associations from elementary, middle, high, and special schools, as well as 247 parents who wished to participate.
The parent roundtable discussion is held annually to help parents voluntarily develop the capacity to operate parent associations and to raise awareness of the educational community, thereby spreading a culture of school participation.
On this day, the superintendent’s commendations were awarded to Sangjin Elementary, Dongdae Elementary, Duwang Elementary, Gulhwa Elementary, and Beomseo Elementary, which were selected as outstanding cases for activating parent participation in schools this year, and time was set aside to share these cases.
The discussion was conducted with 11 members of the Parent Association Consulting Group, each of whom completed facilitator training and was assigned one per roundtable to assist with the discussion. Techniques such as brainstorming were used to actively draw out participant-centered opinions.
So far, the Ulsan Office of Education has supported the formation and operation of school parent associations, budget support for establishing parent association rooms, and consulting support for parent associations to enable them to participate in school educational activities and play a desirable role in the educational community.
Additionally, to help frontline schools operate parent associations efficiently, they distributed operation manuals and leaflets for parent associations, organized a "Parent School Participation Project Fund," and guided the payment of supplies purchase costs as lump sums for convenience in execution.
Superintendent Noh Ok-hee said in her greeting, "I hope this roundtable discussion will be an opportunity to share and communicate cases of parent school participation activities among parent associations in Ulsan and to seek a developmental direction for the coexistence of schools and parent associations."
