Donation of Funds by Samsung Electronics and 7 Affiliates
First Major Corporation Donation by Samsung for Itaewon Tragedy
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Ye-ju] Eight affiliated companies including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung C&T Corporation will donate 5 billion KRW to support the Itaewon tragedy relief efforts. This is the first time a major corporation has contributed donations related to the Itaewon tragedy.
According to Samsung Electronics on the 3rd, Samsung decided to donate funds to comfort the victims and bereaved families of the accident that occurred in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and to support the establishment of a social safety system.
Samsung Electronics will donate 4 billion KRW out of the total 5 billion KRW. The donation will be made to the National Disaster Relief Association within this month.
At the extraordinary shareholders' meeting held on the same day, Samsung Electronics began the main event with a moment of silence to mourn the victims of the Itaewon tragedy. Samsung Electronics employees attending the meeting maintained a solemn atmosphere by wearing black suits and black masks.
