The committee released a statement on the afternoon of the 2nd, saying, "All members of the Jeonnam Provincial Council's Economic, Tourism, and Culture Committee deeply regret the unfortunate incident that occurred during the dinner gathering in the national mourning period."
The drinking party controversy occurred around 6:30 p.m. the previous day at Restaurant A in Mokpo City, where eight committee members and three council office staff were having dinner after completing an administrative audit.
At the time, an internet reporter who saw the bottles of alcohol on the table began filming the scene with a mobile phone, and a physical altercation broke out as some members tried to stop the filming.
During this incident, Councilor B was criticized for snatching the reporter's phone and fleeing. Initially, the council members claimed they had not consumed alcohol, but it was later revealed that they admitted to drinking.
